Stara Zagora mineral spa baths are located just 15km from the city and a short drive up a new road. There have been mineral baths here since Roman Times and the heated mineral water can reach 52 degrees C. There are a number of newly refurbished 3 and 4 star hotels offering various massages and treatments and all have pools. There is an outdoor pool complex filled with the healing mineral water (currently closed) and a small lake. Following the fall of communism, the area fell into disuse and many of the old rest homes for the company workers were abandoned. However, the area has in recent years undergone regeneration and the village of Starozagorski mineralni bani is considered a trendy and expensive place to own property.

The area is incredibly pretty with rolling hills and forests and many hiking trails. There is also the famous pilgrim site of the 'Virgin Mary's Footprint' just a couple of kilometres into the hills from the spa resort. This is a large rock in the hill which is supposed to be a centre for the earth's magnetism and climbing through the narrow gap in the rock is said to make your wish come true (although still waiting on that one!) ad on the top of this is an indentation in the rock filled with water - the footprint. There is a small church at the site but more impressive is the ancient Sarcophagus just to the right of the rock formation.

Very close to the mineral spa resort, a new golf course and various villa developments are planned. This is a long term project but will certainly give a huge boost to the area and ensure property prices in the region increase substantially. The development will begin in 2008 surely increasingly property prices in the area.

This newly constructed villa (built about 5 years ago) is in a small village about 2km past the spa resort and nestled in the hills. It is a very pretty area and a nice village.
